Festival of San Mauro Abate

On the way home from the office last night I stumbled upon a very fun evening. Every town in Italy has a patron saint and our town, Aci Castello's is San Mauro Abate. Last night was his festival celebration.

Lots of VERY LOUD fireworks, street vendors, a parade carrying the life size statue of San Mauro himself all around the town, brass bands, the works! Another great excuse to be up late.

The parade ended at the church with the priest reading e-mails from as far away as New Jersey and Florida wishing the town well on this special occasion.
