A British Royal Wedding and a Scouting Trip to a Hammers-Daemons Game

Saturday, 19 May, 2018

Laurie is one of those Americans who just loves a good royal wedding no matter if it is Swedish or English.

So naturally, we spent much of the day watching all things media worthy about . . .

. . . England's royal wedding between . . .

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

It was all so exhilarating

Thus our marriage was saved for another day by just watching TV.

Feeling both inspired and romantic from watching the wedding, I asked Laurie out on a dinner date to . . .

A DII American Football Game!

It was a Group D game between the two group leaders, the Monza e Brianza Hammers (4-2) at home againsthe Martesana Daemons (3-3).

The kickoff was scheduled for NINE P.M.!

I wonder who had this bright idea?

Well, I did ask Laurie out on a dinner date, so we left a little early for the city of Desio where the game was to be played to dine at the YELP app recommended La Taverna.

Laurie was happy with her risotto

My pizza was top notch too

Thoroughly satisfied with our meal, we headed to the stadium which was only four minutes by car from the restaurant.

I liked the Hammers' sign

The visiting Daemons jumped
out to an early 14-0 lead
and never looked back

The Daemons won by a final score of 21-7.

Thus both teams sit tied atop the Group D standings with matching 4-3 records.

Since they split their two season games, the tie breaker is the aggregate score of the two games. That nod goes to the Daemons by an aggregate score of 21-14 in their favor.

If you wonder why we came to this game at all, it was because the Skorpions uber-knowledgable G.M. Giorgio Nardi thinks that we will draw the #2 squad out of Group D for our Wild Card playoff game in a few weeks.

We'll see . . .

The game ended at about midnight but I must mention one more highlight from the Hammers home field and that's their live entertainment courtesy of . . .

. . . a mature Italian songbird
ala Big Mama Thornton

What do you think?

More American football looms on the horizon as all three Skorpion Flag teams (U13, U15 and U17). They play in the last of the three National Championship Qualifying Tournaments on Skorpion Field Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

At 3:00 p.m. also on Sunday the Group C cellar dwelling Varese Gorillas (0-6) will host the Group B second place Ravenna Chiefs (2-4). I just want to see at what level the Chiefs play compared to the Gorillas.

We are having a GREAT weekend of American football don't  you think?
